this is more a question, can you use infused coconut oil instead of hash oil with this recipe and still get the same texture?
Hi: I believe you can, but am not sure how much coconut oil this recipe will hold before losing its gelatinous properties. It could end up a sticky mess or not set up at all. You could always try a test batch with non-infused coconut oil to see how the mixture reacts to considerably more oil. Have you titrated your oil yet? How much do you need to feel an effect? If it’s a very small amount (1/4-1/2 tsp), maybe you can get away with it. Please let us know what happens- best of luck. We’re here to help!
If you are using an oil, add about 5 drops of food grade glycerin to the mixture just before adding the oil. It’ll help it bind together better.
Hello, when you decarb your hash oil do you infuse and heat it in canola or coconut oil for 30 mins or do you just heat the oil itself? Thanks
Hey Bob: Good question and I probably should clarify my instructions a bit more. By far the best method is to heat the hash oil indirectly in a small ramekin or pyrex in a pot of canola oil in lieu of water (lift ramekin off bottom of pot with bamboo skewers or chopsticks). Water can only get to 212ºF at sea level and it’s violent as all heck and gets everywhere. Plus, it doesn’t even get hot enough for our needs. Oil can get and stay hot, so be very careful with this. I have my infrared thermometer in my hand pretty much the whole time I’m decarbing my oil, and am stirring it constantly. The other option is to get your oven or toaster oven to exactly 250º and put your hash oil and heatproof container in there for 30 minutes. Bubbling should occur and you know thing are going right. When it stops, take it out. If you only have a small amount of hash oil (1-2 grams), we’ve found a tiny bit of coconut oil (1:1 ratio approx) helps get it all out of the ramekin/pyrex/heating vessel. If you have disposable oral syringes or pipettes, it makes it VERY handy to get all that viscous oil from the bottom of the container. Good luck and please let us know how things turn out!
Awesome thank you very much for your time and help. I was thinking using an all silicone ramekin, instead of glass or metal and putting oil straight onto that and then putting that in the oven? Seems easiest method as long as oven gets to 250. If in oven does it need to just sit for 30 mins or be stirred halfway through? Thanks again
I use a mason jar with the lid on and mix the coconut oil and bud in that and bake at like 275 for a few hours. seems to work great and contains the smell (i live in an apartment building)
Hey Mr. Man: Great tip, but be careful not to put too much oil and bud inside a pressurized container inside an oven. That could be potentially explosive and we can’t have that now… for the record, how large a mason jar did you use, and how much oil and bud did you use? It would be good to know your experiences in a little more detail… And I’m just wondering if a few hours in the oven might be a bit much- are you taking it out at intervals and agitating it at all? Just curious to hear what works for whom. And how :) I might top it out at two hours, as you may just be converting THC to CBN after that point also. But if you’re making these for sleep, that may be a good thing too. Medicate safely friend!

Hey Becky: Yes, we have found that this works also. The absolute key thing to remember with decarboxylation is your flower or concentrate should be heated alone or in your oil/butter, etc. for at least 30 mins at 250º F. You will be fully decarbed at that point. Filter and enjoy in your favorite treat after that. Remember to store leftover butter or coconut oil in the freezer for maximum shelf life. Don’t forget to label!!!
So, if I am understanding correctly, coconut oil is lighter than hash oil and will float on top of the hash?
Yes. We use straight hash oil in our treats, but others cannot get their hands on hash oil, so they use infused coconut oil instead and sometimes get separation issues. We have had good luck with adding vegetable glycerine to keep the gelatin and oil more blended, but others have found this to be a messy proposition. Your mileage may vary. Just a suggestion about pretty much all infusion methods: decarb your weed BEFORE putting it through the process. Yes, please decarb first!! You are almost always guaranteed success this way. We’ve made so many edibles that were not fully ‘activated’ and it’s just such a disappointment. Decarb your weed for 30 mins in the oven on a cookie sheet ground and spread evenly. 240º F for 30 mins in a pre-heated oven and you’re good to go. Then infuse into your butter, oil, etc.
Just the oil it’s self. It will bubble a lot. Stir occasionally. When the bubbles stop, you’re done.

He doesn’t say, but the more surface area of your starting material (the finer the chop) the more potency you’ll get, but at the expense of grittier butter even when strained through cheesecloth. I’d say BB sized starting chunks would work perfectly, but it all works… Don’t be afraid to experiment!

Hey Vijay- sorry to hear you’re having trouble. Can I ask what exactly you used in your recipe? This uses a whole packet of Jello mix, which is pretty sweet on its own… you could always Google other gummy treat or gummy candy recipes and add the concentrate to that mix. I swear to you, Jolly ranchers hard candy is the most flavorful way to create gummy s with loud and wonderful flavor. I always add 1/4 cup extra sugar to each batch. I think I am going to try using corn syrup next time.
Agreed with you Aprilsworld! We love experimenting with the different flavors of LorAnn flavoring oils for our hard candy. Hard candy makes sense, as it doesn’t melt (as chocolate or Cheeba Chews do) and they’re portable and as strong as you make them! My only issue with hard candy is its high heat… difficult to pour into hard candy molds unless you have steady hands or a small pot like I use (ours is for melting small amounts of butter or sauces. Easy to pour the very hot candy into molds that way with little to no clean up or mess :) What is your favorite flavors so far? Ours is banana and sour apple (use citric acid powder in molds before pouring candy for sour gummies).
Use less water and add some of the concentrated water flavorings available anywhere. Use the same flavor as your jello

I have made them with cannabis infused coconut oil and encounter the issue when allowing them to cool/set. The oil drifts to the top and settles as a separate layer that when bagged (for later dosage), the oil melts quickly all over resulting in plain gummies and a potent zip lock.
I have made the tincture and am now looking for recipes on how to make gummies using the tincture but have not been successful. Is the glycerin absolutely necessary? Are there any substitutes for this?

Hi Elizabeth: You can always try. Your candy will have a buttery taste, but it probably won’t be the worst taste in the world. You can always make a practice batch if you’re not sure!
Used infused butter- approx 1oz of flowers into 2 pounds clarified butter. Split the liquid difference- 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup butter- and used beef base gelatin, and a packet of strawberry jello, worked great, and I did not need glycerin for them to hold shape
I use the above receipt but i use the large Jello+2 tabl water I can blend a 1/3 cup coconut oil with no problem heavy on the VG

Have you tried vegetable glycerine? You can add this 1 tsp at a time until such time as the oil and gelatin no longer separate. You may end up with stickier candy when you’re done, but you can always use corn starch or powdered sugar or a combination of both to keep from sticking.

Hi cookie, I’ve never made gummies. There’s a whole lotta recipes and most say use canna oil. My question to you: I have bud to make gummies…once it’s decarbed what do you do to strain the bud from the gelatin?

Just use tried and tested cheesecloth. The key is to wait until it is cool (if you used a heat process) and only squeeze small amounts (2-3 Tablespoons). This way, you’ll get more of the good stuff, as trying to do it all at once will trap a bunch of glycerine/oil in the middle, and it’ll be wasted.
Can you use cannabis syrup instead of hash?
I just read up on cannabis syrup, and it looks like you can use it, though I’m not sure the potency. The syrup looks to be glycerine, sugar and water- the glycerine being the only thing THC could bind to… you’ll definitely have to experiment with this one though. Would love to know how it turns out for you. Please let us know!

Oh no! This does not sound tasty at all… I’m afraid that using canna-coconut oil in this recipe works for some and not for others. I’m sorry you are having problems. Have you tried getting some store bought gummies, melting those down, and adding your oil then? Perhaps that could work. Have you tried putting them in the fridge or freezer? Does that help them set up?
And yes, the RSO or oil you use in this “photo recipe” is mixed with coconut oil. As long as you stir thoroughly and mix it right in, you won’t have ANY separation problems as long as you follow the recipe to a tee. And a “refresher packet” is like, a crystal light single, or koolaid singles, etc. any sort of flavoured juice crystal works. Enjoy responsibly!!

hi I used coconut infused oil with this recipe i generally put 1/4 to 1/3 cup canna oil per box of jello i also only use 3 packs of knox instead of 4 and this makes a nicer texture to chew when eating the infused dummies &1 tablespoon food grade vegetable glycerin to help the oil bind to the gummy

What is a refresher packet? I’m going to try your recipe. Also for the gummies, is it needed to strain the flower (after vaping) or can I put everything in the gummies. Is it more potent including it all? Thank you.
Irene: Again, putting pre-vaped flower in a gummy recipe may give undesirable results taste wise. Perhaps you can save a bunch of vaped weed leftovers and make a nice batch of coconut oil and infuse that with the gummies. Just a thought. Good luck!
Can you use an alcohol tincture in place of oil?
Hi Jason: You sure can, but just make sure your alcohol cooks off (alcohol cooks off at 174º F)… that stuff can burn something nasty and the taste isn’t the best either. But yes, using a tincture for this recipe will definitely work. Another alternative is to leave the tincture exposed to air, but have a screen over it to keep dust from getting in your mixture… once some of the liquid has evaporated, it could be incorporated into this recipe a bit easier. Just remember to take the total MG of THC (according to the manufacturer) and divide that by the total number of gummies/candies, and you should have a good idea of the strength of each piece. Be careful at first, but this is a great way to medicate!
What purpose does the pure orange oil serve?
Hey Jay: This information is old and I’m removing that portion from the recipe. Sorry for any confusion. I’m working on perfecting my hash oil these days which is all that matters. Current process is frozen 3 minute ethanol quick wash over 5-7 day old bud/flower. No trim or leaf. I’m getting WAY better taste than winterized BHO which is what I usually use (which usually causes slight throat burn). We’re always experimenting around here. What are you using for your oil/concentrate?

Alec is correct. Never use alcohol with butter or coconut oil as it’s not necessary. Some people use 95% everclear/ethanol in lieu of butane to make their hash oil/wax/shatter. It’s an aggressive solvent, so make sure your ethanol and bud have both been frozen for at least 24 hours. Wash/soak for no more than 3 minutes total with slight agitation at each minute mark. Dump this as quickly as possible through a colander/strainer so bud is in contact with ethanol for exactly 3 minutes for the most pristine extraction. Then filter through an unbleached coffee filter. Reduce to oil. For more info, look up QWET- Quick Wash Ethanol Extraction. Good luck and let us know what happens!
Hey Alec: Yes you can, though vegetable oils generally don’t contain much saturated fat which is the best kind of fat for cannabis extraction for edibles. Coconut oil, Ghee, and to a slightly lesser extent, organic unsalted butter are best. The way I think of it is The more saturated fat your starting oil has in it, the more cannabinoids that particular oil/fat will hold. Vegetable oil may not be as efficient as one of the other oils. If you were curious, you can substitute full-fat coconut oil in almost any cookie or brownie recipe that calls for vegetable oil and it turns out great. Just remember there are two types of coconut oil- one has the flavor removed (naturally refined) and RAW Virgin pressed which has the very slight scent of coconut. Depending on your recipe, this could work to your advantage :)

Yes, coconut oil has the most natural saturated fats, which can ‘hold’ more THC than butter or olive oil. All 3 work great, it’s just if you’re going for the most bang for your buck, I’d use coconut oil. Remember you can substitute infused coconut oil for vegetable oil in any boxed muffin, brownie or cookie recipe and it tastes great too :)

Hi Derick: No problem! With allergies, just choose a cooking oil that you’re not allergic to. Olive oil comes to mind, though it’s a good idea to use an oil that is flavorless. Good luck!

How many gummies does this make ?
We try to yield about 20 pieces of candy each time we make a batch. It makes the math real easy this way. Let’s say we use 1 gram of wax at 70% THC. That’s 700 mg of THC in our gram of wax. 700 mg THC / 20 pieces of candy = 35 mg THC per piece. Easy-peasy and pretty potent for a gummy candy! Don’t forget to decarb your wax first though!!!
You can use is flaxseed oil, and avocado oil, or butter. :)

Hi Bolo: I’m not quite sure what you’re asking. Sounds like you may have cannabutter on hand and want to use it in this recipe. If so, I can’t say for sure how this will turn out. We use hash oil because it’s the most potent oil we have available and need to use very little per piece of candy. If the butter would even incorporate into the gelatin mixture, it would have to be very, very strong cannabutter. If cannabutter is what you have on hand, try Googling dessert recipes that use a lot of butter. Land o’ Lakes is a good site for this. Good luck, and let us know how it turned out.

my gummy has mold on it. is it still safe to eat?
Hey Ashley- not sure how much mold is on there, but it’s generally not a good idea to eat mold!! If it’s small amounts, use a small sharp knife or Xacto type blade to cut out the moldy parts. Did you keep them in the refrigerator? Unfortunately, these need to be eaten quickly or kept in the refrigerator. Good luck!!
Didn’t realize they would need to be refrigerated for storage and my last two have more mold than can be cut off with an exacto. Can I just rinse off the mold with water? I know it may take away from potency but I don’t care.
Oh man! Sorry to hear about this- I’m not a fan of mold and run pretty fast when I see it, but if you’re desperate and scrape most of the mold off (not sure rinsing it will do, but you can always try), you should be OK. Not recommended, but desperate times call for desperate measures!! Next time, jam those babies in the freezer for storage and just remember to take one out the night before you’re going to medicate :) Good luck and let us know what happens.
It’s actually not a good idea to just cut or scrape off. Scraping will spread the spores across the surface. Cutting attaches the spore to the knife and brings contamination in. Plus, mold isn’t just what you see, but also the ‘roots’ (not proper term, but gives idea) that you can’t see. Ingested mold can affect liver, lungs, immune system, and more.

One of the problems with freezing anything with gelatin, is that once thawed, the texture (mouthfeel) can become ‘tough.’ But, I guess tough is better than moldy. I wonder if vacuum sealing might delay molding when kept in the frig.

Thanks for this… we don’t have a ton of experience with freezing our treats, as they get eaten up pretty fast around here! I would say that any kind of airtight glass container would be best for storage.
no….please dont eat your jello gummy covered in mold…next time melt down some gummy candy. Most local stores sell bulk candy still….well one can find it if one looks…use real candy, melt in a bouble boiler, add your concentrate…..por in mold…chill 24 hours….walla!!!!

This probably the easiest method in all honesty… The store bought candy will have preservatives in them that the homemade ones do not and will last much longer.

Hard to say… how strong is your infused coconut oil? If you only need to add a little, you shouldn’t run into any issues. If you find you need to add more, some glycerine may come in handy to keep things mixed, but at a cost of making the candies more sticky on the outside. Corn starch or powdered sugar should take care of the stickiness issues if you run into any!

I think that for long term storage you might do what the jerky producers use – those oxygen eating little packages, mold can’t live without oxygen.
Hey Mysha: This is a fantastic idea. It’s a great idea to save those little silica packets whenever you buy beef jerky or any of those random electronics you sometimes get them in.
I use this recipe every couple months. I actually find using half the recommended amount of gelatin. The candies come out softer like jello. Also, i take the candies out of the molds the next day and store them in the freezer but keep them from touching anything like ice or frozen as it will encourage excess frost to settle on candies. I put my candy in a ziploc bag and wrap that up in a generous amount of paper towel to keep them from touching anything frozen directly. I take them out and eat them right away. Tastes fine and same texture as when room temperature. I know this is an old post but it’s still getting lots of attention. Have Fun

Hi Sarah: I’d say get the highest potency hash oil you can get your hands on first, then get your favorite chocolate bar(s) and a double boiler… fire that bad boy up and melt that chocolate bar, then slowly add your cannabis concentrate. Make sure it’s decarboxylated first, or it won’t work!!! See instructions earlier in post (and in recipe) on best methods of decarboxylation. I found with the gummies I have purchased in recent times, I keep mine in the freezer 24/7 and they last a long time.They don’t freeze. However, I am unsure of the recipe used to make the ones I have. All I know is that each are about 1/4 tsp in size (volume). They are quite potent as a half of one is all I ever take. A full one really hits hard and lasts for about 4-5 hours. I have some still from the first batch I bought 10 months ago. I take them out and eat them as soon as I take them out of the freezer and they taste fine. One batch I bought though, the seller only kept them in the fridge and they dried up and looked like they are turned moldy! I think they were already started to mold when I got them because they went bad in the freezer, the first batch didn’t
I see you said the candies had approx. 36mg of BHO per 1g of candy. Does this mean that the yield was 166 grams of candy?
If not how many grams of candy did this yield? Also, by what amount would you lower the oil by?
Hey Patrick: sounds just about right. For any recipe where you know the exact amount of hash oil/concentrate that goes in, just take the total weight of all the candy when you’re done with it and divide that number by the number of grams (expressed in milligrams) you used. For example, if you wanted candy half as strong, just use 3,000 milligrams of BHO/oil (3 grams) for the 166 total grams of candy. 3,000/166=18.072 mg/g candy weight. Remember these are STRONG candies because we have a high tolerance. Colorado states an edible portion must contain no more than 10 mg THC. Be careful!
Hi there!! So I make my gummies using BHO oil. I let them out to dry for a good 8 hours before sugaring them but the sugar still melts. How can I avoid this?
Hey Amanda: We’ve had trouble with this especially when it’s humid out. Though not nearly as tasty as powdered sugar, a very light dusting of cornstarch might do you better. Are you refrigerating the gummies first, then adding the powdered sugar? Definitely try cornstarch next time- it should work a bit better. How dry are they to the touch before you’re putting sugar on them? Are they especially oily? Let us know more and we’ll see if we can help. Good luck!
After chilling (and it’s always good to chill, that’s why we’re making gummies), try using a more coarse granular sugar. By the way, powdered sugar is usually 50% corn starch, 50% sugar. Something else, it costs a little more, but try using powdered sugar made only with cane sugar as opposed to beet sugar. Cane is sweeter and cleaner on the palate.

Powdered sugar can get sticky and clumpy pretty quickly too, so your information is solid and we can’t wait to try it on our next batch. Also, for those who like sour gummies, you can always sprinkle citric acid powder in your molds before you pour your candy in them. That way it’s incorporated into every piece. You can also put this on after the candy is made if you prefer- put in a jar and shake the heck out of them to coat them all evenly.

Sounds like an excellent suggestion. Corn starch by itself is kind of nasty and powered sugar can get pretty messy too!
That suggestion is excellent. For gummies with low-level stickiness, mixing the two (and adding citric acid if you like) make a perfect dusty coating. Careful, not TOO much cornstarch!
But if the gummies are really sticky, attempting a powdery coating of any kind can create a worse mess than you began with.
Worst case, put your botched-up gummies in a strainer or collander and rinse them very quickly with cold water. Then re-melt them and start over.
I just made these and I used a different glycerin. It’s in the cake making section of walmart and craft stores where you find the Wilton brand of supplies. It’s the flavor bottles to add highly concentrated flavor. They have watermelon, strawberry, ect. The main ingredient is glycerin. It is awesome!

Hey 420buzz- We’ve never tried it with gummies, but we did take some Jolly Ranchers once and powdered them in the blender then microwaved that. It melted somewhat, but got hard too quickly to work with it. With the gummies, I would think it would work, just make sure you reheat it really slowly and don’t walk away from it once while it’s on the stove. Constant stirring is your friend here…
Alternately, if you don’t have enough candy molds, you can use cornstarch in a shallow pan as a substitute candy mold- sprinkle a fair amount in a pan and use the top of a 1 gallon milk jug or soda bottle (for example) to make some indents in the cornstarch. Pour gelatin liquid in the new ‘molds’ made by the cornstarch and whatever you used to make the indents- you could even use the back of a spoon in a pinch. Let us know what happens and good luck!! However, it started to gum-up after a while and stuck to the sides of the pan, and it refused to re-melt… So before the extra was a total loss, we poured it in the bottom of a glass pan (after spraying it with organic grapeseed oil non-stick spray), then dusted the treat with vitamin C powder (ascorbic acid for tartness), then rolled it into a log and sliced it …beautiful! I’m actually the cannabis-free cannabis advocate, so I shared it with others who sampled it for us …and it was a real hit <3

Thank you for the recipe. I used 5grams of ‘Snowdawg’ & 5grams of ‘Fury Kush’. Each ~17% THC. I used coconut oil for decarboxilation. Each square mold is ~17-18 grams each. I have 24 squares. If my calculations are correct, then each square is 433.33 milagrams? I ate 1 square to see the potency about 20 minutes ago. They are Tasty! I will post the effects later. With a little whipcream on the top of the strawberry square, it’s an unbelievable treat!

Hey Jeremy: Sorry to hear this. We haven’t had such problems. Can you tell us how much glycerin you used in the recipe? The only thing I noticed was they got more sticky with the addition of glycerin, but when you dust with cornstarch and/or citric acid powder, this usually eliminates that problem. How much kief do you plan on using in the recipe? Hopefully it won’t get too grainy in texture with the addition of plant matter (albeit a very small amount). Hi Lizzy: What I would do is get some foil and sprinkle the kief as thinly as possible. Fire up the oven or toaster oven to 250º F and place your material in the oven for 30 minutes. Make sure to not trust the temperature your oven indicates. We use a separate stove thermometer that sits inside the oven. Also good is an infrared thermometer. Don’t overheat this. Make the jello/gummies as normal and sprinkle in your activated/decarboxylated kief into this mixture. Mix well and enjoy! They may be a bit gritty due to the intact and fibrous trichome heads, but it should definitely work. Alternatively, you could cover the kief with just enough coconut oil to saturate and no more and mix well. Put this mixture in the oven for 30 mins at 250º F. Add to recipe at appropriate time. Let us know what happens! Good luck!!

I tried making the gummy bears and they came out pretty good except that the glycerin did not help as in the end I still found the oil settling on top of my jello which is not cute. Am I using the wrong glycerin or is there another way to get the oil and the jello to stay together?
Hey Paige: Sorry for the delay. Very strange indeed. We use straight vegetable glycerine, Heritage Store brand, so I’m not sure what’s going on. How much hash oil did you use in the recipe? And did you use hash oil, or infused coconut oil? We’ve had a few people try it with infused coconut oil, and I’ve never done it that way, so I’m not sure how much oil the jello mixture will hold without separating. If you can give us a little more information, hopefully we can get to the bottom of this and help you and maybe others too!
The difference in vegetable glycerin and sugar glycerin makes a big difference when making edibles. Most stores only sell sugar glycerin, have had to buy vegetable glycerin online… wasted alot of flower one time with sugar glycerin and was not a happy camper…

I tried these using 3g BHO, it has a really strong BHO flavor, any suggestions for making em taste more like the jello flavor…it burns a Lil on the throat.

Yeah, depending on the source material (flower or trim) of your BHO, and how it was extracted, you can have virtually tasteless gummies or ones that burn the hell out of your throat. With the same 3 gram amount in the recipe. What I’ve learned from experimentation and tons of trial and error, is that anything like not flushing prior to harvest, and pesticides or herbicides that are sprayed on the flowers and plants will translate into the BHO’s overall taste. Especially in edibles like gummies or hard candy!!! You may not notice it as much when dabbing, but I learned the hard way by spraying the hell out of my flowering plants very near harvest with neem oil, that it burns like hell on the throat and you should never spray neem oil on flowering plants past week two. Or so I heard somewhere…
So… You can always add less oil per piece and take two, or make larger gummies to dilute the oil’s taste. Try a different source of concentrate if possible? Please let us know how things go!

Hey Mark: See our section on making cannabis infused oil first. Use coconut oil, as it has the most saturated fat and holds the most cannabinoids. Vegetable oil is horrible and doesn’t have a lot of saturated fat. Check the recipe here:
You can do an alcohol wash (with Everclear, preferably), then evaporate the alcohol. It’s a fair bit of trouble, but gives great results.

Just made these, thank you for the recipe, they are awesome. I made mine with 1/8 cup of glycerin based tincture flavored with grape and used grape jello, very good! Slight tincture flavor at the end, but overall great turnout.

(this is what you made when you dissolved BHO into everclear) totally cool, but you needed to heat this to 250ºF and evaporate the alcohol first to make the BHO bioavailable. Won’t work otherwise. Yes, if you mean shatter, crumble, wax… this is what we use. Any form of hash oil, be it in crumble, shatter, honeycomb, whatever, will turn into an oil once heated past a certain point for decarboxylation. Concentrated THC is best for any recipe.

Hummus Bears for my brother. He has cancer and right now can’t smoke his because cold weather flares up his asthma.. I grounded up real fine a packet of emergency C and coated the bears.
My batch made 2molds of 63 bears to each mold,so 126 bears total. Thanks again I’ll let you know how he likes them and if they help. I just know to many special brownies doesn’t help when it comes to weight. Lol

How much of the tincture did you use in the recipe for the gummy bears?
We used straight, warmed hash oil, which is pretty thin when warmed. It took a bit of vegetable glycerine to make the oil blend with the gelatin, but it seemed to work well. Make sure to dust them with corn starch or powdered sugar when you’re done, and keep them cool and dry. Again: to figure out strength per piece and you know your concentrate’s THC percentage, it’s beyond easy to figure out dosage per piece. Let’s say you wanted 50 mg per gummy and you wanted to make 20 gummies: 50 mg x 20 pieces = 1000 mg THC. Let’s say you have some sweet 80% wax/oil, so 1000 mg / .80 (80%) = 1250 mg of your wax to equal 1000 mg THC. Let’s say you only had 55% pure THC wax/oil. You still want 1000 mg THC total, so: 1000 / .55 (55%) = 1818 mg of your wax to do the same trick. More oil per candy is usually nastier, but hey, everyone can only get their hands on certain things, so there you go… Good luck, and please let us know what happens. Medicate safely my friend, and don’t forget to decarboxylate your material or it won’t work…

I prepared this recipe with coconut oil and replaced the 6 grams of hash oil and 1-3 tsp of vegetable glycerin with 1/4 – 1/3 cup of infused coconut oil.

Hey Simone: Sounds good, and it should work fine, but we used BHO, Shatter, etc. 6 grams of it actually. It would be near impossible to make coconut oil this strong, but depending on your tolerance, it may be just fine. Remember that our standard for oil is 2 OZ flower for 2 Cups of oil. That could work, depending on the THC content of your starting material. Hopefully it’s homegrown flower!!

Hi all! Wanted to share my experience with this recipe. I too used infused Coconut oil (roughly 1/4C plus 2Tbsp) and 2 dr full of my infused Propylene Glycol mixed vigorously, molded let sit an wow were they tasty!! Next batch I’m going to double the coconut oil and PG as I am looking for it to be a bit stronger. I didn’t have any separation of ingredients or refrigeration problems as the gang gobbled them up! I had very good success for my first and second trials. Results as follows:
1st batch
3 oz package watermelon jello
4 packets geletin
1/2 cup water
Mixed well and heated to a liquid (had temp control issues with my old style gas stove but made it work)
I then added 6 grams of activated “mb” alcohol based hash oil and 3 tsp infused foodgrade vegetable glycerin.
Stirred a bit longer til mixed well and poured into molds.
End Results were potent but tasted much like the hash oil. Not a bad test batch.
2nd batch results:
3 oz package of strawberry jello
4 packets gelitan
1/2 cup water
Mixed well and heated to liquid on low flame (still got too hot and lost some on sides of pot)
I then used 3.5g of bho/ 2.5g infused coconut oil (this was decarbed in oven at 220 for approx 30 min prior to adding)
I also again used my infused vg to allow mix. 2 tbs added
Stirred over heat til mixed well. And used dropper to dispense in new bear molds. With loss (from stuck to pan) i still made 76 quite potent bears. Very medicine like taste when let melt in mouth but tasty if chewed quick and swallowed.

There are a few people in this very question and answer thread who’ve tried this recipe with canna-coconut oil, so I don’t see why cannabutter wouldn’t work. I live in South Africa and don’t have access to canna oil could I just fry the weed in butter or is there another way of doing it .i am new to cooking with marijuana but I love smoking it !
Hey Range: Glad you found us! What you are doing is fine, provided you don’t get it too hot and burn all the potency and goodness of the medicine away. If there was anyway to fry at 250ºF or 120ºC this would be ideal. Best would be to fry it at the lowest temperature you can possibly do it at and try cooking tests at 30 mins, 45 mins and 60 mins and try out all three. Please let us know what happens- Good luck!!
I know this is not an exact science but I would like to formulated a mixture that would be about like the dosage of the bears sold in Colorado(10mg THC).
I have some White Widow BHO shatter that I plan on decarbolaxating in the oven. How many grams of this would you recommend to achieve desired dosage? As I said I know it is a bit of a guess.. Thanks..Ted
Hey Ted: This is where some basic algebra comes into play and it’s actually pretty easy to figure out if you know your THC content of any wax or concentrate. Hopefully you know this, as it would be impossible to figure out if not. Let’s use wax that’s 65% THC for an example. Let’s say you had a mold that made 20 gummies, so you’d need a total of 200 mg THC total for your recipe. 200 mg / .65 (65%) = 308 mg oil total for 20 pieces of candy with 10 mg THC each. Easy, right?? Just kidding… this took a while to figure out, but once you know the percentage of concentrate, simple math can get you precise dosing. Thanks for visiting!
Thanks for the recipe, I’m going to try a side by side test with coconut oil and hash oil. I also have bubble hash, and I’m wondering if I can decarb that in the oven to use with this recipe… And, do you think the hash oil works best because it’s filtered, as opposed to just adding decarbed bubble hash? I just would rather avoid spending so much money on ISO, I already have the bags… And a LOT more material, what do you think? Undoubtedly, the hash oil will be the strongest per weight… I just don’t want to but that much alcohol…
Hey Robbie: I think bubble would be a much better starting material than flower if it’s good. Decarb it in the oven, but if you can get your heat source to 250ºF exactly, and you can continuously stir your bubble and coconut oil, you’ll have a winner on your hands. I have a very small saucepan for small batches. Maybe a butter melter type pot would work well too if you have one of those. Filter that and you should be good to go. The only way to make consistent oil this way though is to follow procedures exactly every time. From the same starting material to the same amount of continuous stirring on the stovetop. Don’t let it burn. 250ºF is your friend for 30 minutes, but not more. Good luck, and let us know your results please!
I am about to try making my own gummies and I had a question for you. After looking at the ingredients list, it seems like there is a lot of volume of material vs oil? It says that your recipe makes about 20-30 servings. How much would be a serving? I am just having problems trying to determine the strength of my candy. My candy molds are 1/4 tsp and I have 6 grams of really good homemade oil made from decarboxylated high quality bud using everclear. Also, how much thc would be considered a good dose. There seems to be so many different opinions. ie: 100mg thc is a high dosage, 50mg thc is a low dosage! Just curious as to your opinion. I noticed you said 36mg per gram of candy weight is a heavy dose but I am unsure as the size of your candy! Thanks in advance, any info you can provide to me will be appreciated.
Hey Mark: sorry for the delay. We’ve been busy around here! A good dose is a great question and one that should be taken seriously. For some people, 5 mg of THC is enough, though the state of Colorado considers 10 mg a single dose for non-medical users. For others, 80 mg may give barely a buzz. It all comes down to your individual tolerance, metabolism and body chemistry. It literally used to take 250-300 mg THC for me to feel anything. I’ve cut way back since, and now 60-70 mg in candy gives me a great buzz for a couple hours and they’re totally discreet. My gummies I made for the recipe were about 6 grams in weight, so they were about 200-220 mg THC each! Very strong and very medicine-like, and from what I can remember, they were pretty horrible, but they definitely worked! My rationale now is 3 or 4 50 mg pieces are much tastier than one small, very powerful gummy. But to each their own, and whatever works for you, just do it and don’t be afraid of getting a little too stoned while testing out these recipes. Once you get it right, it’s quite awesome to whip up a batch of gummmies or candy and know you’ll get the same result every time.

Hey Melanie- Sounds awesome, and quite delicious! I’ve heard it’s not so easy to just try infusing BHO and veggie glycerine. Glycerine is typically a poor solvent, though it does work… All the kids were trying to do this for their e-cig juice. I’ve heard it takes a high speed immersion blender with a specialized tip to blend it properly and avoid separation. https://skunkpharmresearch.com/game-changer-emulsifying-vegetable-glycerin-and-bho-for-e-juice/ I hear it may be better to extract directly into glycerine with decarbed flower, but I’ve personally had very poor results with glycerine. Hi so I want to make a batch using 1 G of shatter because I don’t want to use a lot incase I mess up. I just have a question and please correct me if I’m wrong. To decarb I would have to put the BHO on parchment paper on a Pyrex pan and set the oven to 220-250F for 30 min but should I put in the oven by itself or should I add cocunut oil with it? I heard it only activates in oil so I’m not sure. I really want to make these but I just have that doubt. Should I also cover the pan with aluminum or something so the molecules don’t “fly away” and lose potency. Could I also straight out put it into the mix after I take it out the oven? (Letting the BHO cool down for a few min before taking out)
Hey there: Thanks for visiting, and I think we may be able to help. Better than parchment paper (as I don’t know how you’d keep it from running super thin and containing it on the parchment, unless you made a little boat out of it of something. Do you have a heat proof ramekin (small, heatproof vessel)? If so, take your gram of shatter and add 1 gram of coconut oil. Put that in a preheated oven of 250º F for 25-30 minutes. You should watch the container if at all possible. Once the container is warmed to 250ºF, it will bubble (decarboxylation), and when it slows down and is almost done bubbling, your oil is decarbed and ready to be put into candy, gummies, butter for a cookie recipe, oil for a brownie recipe, etc… Check this: http://tokesieroll.com/decarboxylation/
Just made these with 6g’s GSC wax and 2oz Coconut oil. I also used 3t of glycerine and BOLTHOUSE FARMS Mango Juice instead of water (for flavor & color). turned stable and tastes a little “mediciney” but when one is going for potency one can’t bitch about taste!!

Hi, I love the recipe so far and I’m so glad I found it, however I have a couple questions. First, I was wondering if this recipe would still be potent with 1 gram of wax, or should I use 2. Secondly, I am wondering if I take this amount is decarbing and using glycerin like this recipe shows better than using BHO coconut oil? Would substituting decarbed wax and glycerin with decarbed bho coconut oil help the thc bind to the candies more, or vice versa? Also would soy lecithin help much and if so how much? Thank you
Hey Steven: So glad you found us! The magic of this recipe is that you can make these candies as strong or as weak as you need them to be. It really is quite simple to figure out the dosage per piece of candy. Take the total weight of concentrate (let’s use 2 Grams or 2000 Milligrams as an example). Most concentrates are 60-80% pure THC, so with 2 grams of wax at 70% purity, you’re looking at 2 Grams (2000 mg) x .70 (70%) = 1400 mg THC. Take that number and divide it by the number of pieces of candy and you have your exact dosage per piece. Easy peasy! With the example given, if you made 20 gummies, they’d have 70 mg THC each. Make 40 pieces of candy and you have 35 mg THC each. Mind you, that’s a pretty strong dose, even for patients with high tolerances!!! Good luck and medicate safely and please let us know what happens. Also, don’t forget, you can add a little coconut oil when decarbing small amounts of wax. That stuff is sticky and you lose a lot to the side of the container if you don’t use the coconut oil. It still works either way, you just get all your goodies out of the decarbing vessel when you use a little bit of coconut oil. It just helps get it all out of the container is all… The glycerin (if needed at all) helps the hash oil bind to the gelatin-candy mixture a little better. Trust us when the oil is mixed into the candy rather than just floating on top. That’s nasty :)
I want to use coconut oil to make my gummies. Now I want to know what’s the ratio of bud to oil for extraction? When I do my cannebutter I do 1 oz to 16 oz butter (land-O-Lakes) and my butter is fire. I’m always getting good feedback from my friends whom I let taste my delightful treats.
Hey Pedro: Sounds good. We use 2 oz bud per 1 pound of butter, but if you have a formula that works for you, go for it! This gummy recipe does work with infused coconut oil as well, though I don’t know your tolerance, and don’t know how strong you like your edibles. Just remember to try and figure out the total number of treats you want per batch of butter/oil, etc before you begin, and as long as you repeat that formula each time, you should be golden. Please do tell us your experiences- we love to hear success stories!!
DOCTOR HAPPY’S CO2 OIL GUMMY RECIPE
1/3 cup Unflavored Gelatin (buy in 1 pound can on Amazon)
1 1/2 cup Water
1/3 cup honey
1 teaspoon of flavoring – Black Cherry or Cinnamon Oil (2 Drams)
(Lorann Oil – buy 1 ounce bottle on Amazon)
6 drops of red food coloring
3 grams or more of CO2 Extract Oil
Corn Starch
Equipment:
1 4 Quart Pan
1 Pyrex 2 Quart Glass Measuring Cup
1 Tablespoon
1 Teaspoon
Teflon coated Wisk
Silicon Molds – Buy a three piece kit from Amazon – It is nice to mix sizes
Eyedropper / Syringe / Pastry Gun / Pastry Bag – This is used to fill molds.
Stove and Electric Tea Kettle
1. Measure out ingredients. Dust molds with Corn Starch.
2. Put 4 Quart pot on burner and place pyrex 2-Quart inside. Fill 4-Quart pot with water to make a “double boiler”.
3. Put 1/3 cup Gelatin in Pyrex and pour 1/1/2 cup of tea kettle boiling hot water over it.
4. Turn on burner to LOW and mix gelatin and water with spoon.
5. Be patient and let gelatin bloom. 10 minutes. Check and stir with spoon to help. Add a tablespoon or two of hot water to help dissolve.
6. When Gelatin is dissolved. Add honey and stir with spoon until dissolved.
7. Add food coloring. 6 drops. Stir with wisk until mixed.
8. Add 4 gram 40 CO2 Oil. Stir briskly in with wisk.
9. Flavoring. Better to add less than more. Mix well with wisk.
10. Fill molds. Pour directly from Pyrex into Molds or use a tool: Turkey Baster /Pastry Gun / Pastry Bag / Syringe. If you don’t have a mold you can just pour it onto a pan or plate and cut with knife when set.
11. Place molds on a tray and put in fridge. Be sure to cover the molds with wax paper. Only need an hour or so in the fridge You can also set it out on the back porch and let it set overnight.
12. Will easily pop out of mold when set. Ready to enjoy when set. Store in air tight container or seal portions in food saver bag.
I have a standard size and a small size bear mold. This batch size sakes about 50 Standard Size and 50 Small Size Gummy Bears. Large 40mg Small 20mg.
Tip: CO2 OIL. Heat oil container in a dish of hot water. This will reduce oil viscosity so it will pour and flow out of your container easier.
Adjustments: You can use other sugars as a substitute for honey (Be sure to dissolve completely). You can use fruit juice, wine or soda instead of water. Want tart? Add citric acid.
Tip: Make a test batch first so you don’t waste your oil. The benefit of the test run is that you will make some nice candy to enjoy and you can adjust the taste to your liking.

I want to try a gummie recipie and the ones I have looked at call for the glycerin to be added to help bind the kiefe or hash to the water and jello. I cant make keife because all I have is sugar leaf and when I run it through a grinder it just gives me smaller bits of leaf in the bottom level. So I decided to use a hash oil instead but for two days in a row the couple shops I went to were out of butane. Was thinking to just infuse the glycerin itself (which could also be used for lotions) but I assume the jello would only hold, maybe, 20 ml of glycerin without losing its gummie property? I don’t know, and I only have enough to try a couple ideas. Any thoughts? Will 20 ml of glycerin be enough to get an affect from 4 or so (that’s ideal) gummies (each bactch would be about 20 ml of glycerin to about 20 gummies, so 1 mg a piece, or could I add more? lol) Any other thoughts on how to make these gummies? My best friend is only 25 and lupus has taken the use of her left leg and her left eye, she is always in pain and I am really hoping to come up with a way to help her with her pain that will be acceptable in the house and doesn’t involve the gross and expensive opiate prescriptions. Any advice would be appreciated as I have only used butter in the past and have never ventured beyond that. Thanks. Really banking on the gummies, it would be perfect. Hey there- sorry for any delays and I hope you’re able to help your friend with her pain. Glycerine tinctures are tricky, because glycerine is actually a poor medium for infusing cannabis. Better yet is coconut oil, which is 100% pure fat and ‘holds’ the most THC and other cannabinoids. We like using concentrates because we can calculate the strength of our edibles each time given the % of THC and the number of finished pieces of candy, brownies, cookies, etc.
What would the equivalent be with already made tincture instead of oil?
This is a difficult question to answer without knowing the strength of the tincture, but I’m sure you can use tincture instead of oil. Just be sure to heat the gelatin mixture past 174ºF long enough for the alcohol in your tincture to boil off and you’re left with just the cannabinoids and gelatin mixture. Yes- Sorry I can’t always answer immediately, but get some citric acid powder quick. You can spray your molds, then dust the molds with citric acid powder. Pour liquid into molds. For extra sour, sprinkle with extra citric acid powder once liquid gummies are in the molds. Good luck and let us know how they turned out!!!
For sours dust the gummies with a mixture of corn starch, citric acid powder and granulated sugar after you take them out of the mold. The amount of citric acid will determine how sour they taste.

Hi Doug: So sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. Can you please clarify what 7-10 grams of just normal is? I can certainly help you, but need some more info first.
I find that decarbing dried herb at between 240°-250° F for 45-60 minutes solved my potency problem. I then put in pot of boiling water to remove some of the chlorophyll. Then strain well and mix with Everclear (190 proof grain alcohol) in a glass quart jar. Usually let sit for 6 to 8 weeks in a cool dark place, shaking the bottles twice a day. Strain again and boil off liquid in a rice cooker until it just starts to bubble. Can be mixed with a small amount of food grade cocoa or coconut butter. I use approximately 0.2-0.4 gm per 2 gm of oil. No need to decarb finished oil!
Can I make them by cutting up about 2 grams and putting them in the oven for 30 minutes. Then grinding dried bud and adding to almost a full nip of Dr mcgillicuddys apple pie 21 or 27% alcohol. Then put that in the fridge 24 hours. Use that mixture in the recipe
Hi Curious: I don’t think 27% alcohol will do you much good… you have to assume that Dr McGillicuddy’s apple pie surprise whatever is 73% water plus a little flavor in those spirits. Oil and water still don’t mix, and you’d have a mess on your hands for sure. Can you not get Everclear 95.5% ethanol where you live? I wish I could be more help.

Hey Sasi: So sorry for the delay- our site was hacked and we were offline for a while. Do you know how much total THC is in your liquid concentrate? For example, if you had 30 ml liquid (1 oz) and it contained 250 mg THC and you wanted to make 20 gummies… and you used the whole 30 ml liquid, you would have 12.5 mg THC per gummy (250 mg THC / 20 pieces candy = 12.5). This would be an excellent amount to start with, as Colorado considers 10 mg THC a standard recreational dose. Please let us know what happens. Thanks for visiting!

The key here is allowing your gelatin to bloom properly, and using a whisk as opposed to anything else.
If you allow the gelatin to bloom before mixing and mix with a whisk you can get away with up to 2 cups of liquid in there.
Oh and another thing. Don’t spray your molds….. theyre made of silicone… food grade silicone at that…. they won’t stick. All the spray does is add an adverse temperature oil to something that already doesn’t want to naturally bind.

Lecithin and glycerine are completely different. We think you should be able to use tincture with no problem. We’ve not tried it ourselves.
Why do my gummies get “wet” when I store them in plastic bags in the refrig or freezer?
Tried to make gummies with coconut oil. It separated, although I used glycerin. How do you prevent this. The effect was great, taste not so much.
Hi Sue: Sorry to hear about your troubles… but glad to know they worked! The only thing I can suggest is further experimentation… others on this thread have used infused canna-coconut oil with no problems whatsoever, but humidity, temperature of your kitchen, and a thousand other things can contribute to your issues… have you tried taking store bought gummies and melted those down in a double boiler and then adding the infused oil? That may work, as well as other recipes on the web… this site comes from many years of experimentation and borrowing ideas off other cannabis cooking websites. Read through all the questions in this post/thread and you will see others who have had success using the infused coconut oil. Good luck, and please let us know how things turn out for you!

Hi Tom: Hash or kief is a better thing to mix into oil or butter, but remember trichome heads are fibrous and must be strained out, unless you want that in your edible. For certain muffins, this may be desirable, but yeah, working with keif is awesome, but you definitely need to strain those trichome heads and stalks.
if i had made a vegetable glycerin tincture with 2 ounces of cannabis yielding 1 1/2 cups of VG. would i be able to turn that tincture into gummy bears? and would adding soy lecithin help?
I wouldn’t add soy lecithin at this stage. Have you titrated this VG yet? How much do you have to take to feel high or have an affect on you? Once we figure this out, maybe we can help you on making these with your VG. Alternatively, VG goes nicely into hot and cold beverages, so you can always spike your iced tea or coffee :)

Yes. Best to eat these quickly or put them in the freezer and take them out a couple hours before you want to medicate. Mold is very bad and you don’t want to eat it!
Could you possibly provide an exact measurment unit for the amount of plain gelatin used in this recipe? Like how many ounces. I dont have packaged unflavored (plain) gelatin and even if I did I wouldnt know if it was the same size packets you used for this recipe.

Yes, absolutely. Though I don’t know how good the oil he makes would taste. Depends on your starting material I suppose.
I make my own RSO using a small tabletop distiller (safest way I have found) . “Wash ” flower with Everclear. With the tabletop distiller I am able to recover about 70% of the Everclear for reuse. Results have been fantastic.

Cookie, I couldn’t get my BHO anywhere, is there any problem if I use cannabis infused water instead of regular water and replacing the effect of the wax?
Hi Sasi: We’ve never heard of THC infused water, as most hash oil is oil based, and does not mix in water. The exception would be 99% crystalized THC, which we have not worked with here yet, but I do believe you can mix that in just about anything (water included). You can even sprinkle that stuff on top of you ice cream! If you could make extremely potent canna-coconut oil, you can use up to a couple teaspoons in this recipe and it’ll still work. how much oil should i put in the gummy mix if i made a 60 gram leaf ethyanol heat reduction then mixed 8-1 with a 70/30 vg/eg split to yield 60 ml of e juice?…and what would be the thc level in the gum,mys?

Hi Sean: I’m trying like heck to figure out your strength/potency, but am having trouble. I have no idea how strong your starting material is, so it’s impossible for me to determine the strength. You can always make a batch and try it out, but make sure your THC oil has been decarboxylated or it won’t work in the gummies!
Hey all.. I’m new to this whole weed/hash oil thing. For simplicity’s sake, let’s take half your bottle of oil (approx 200 mg THC) and melt 25 gummies in a cup, mix the two together, and re-pour your new mixed candy into some candy molds. If you can get 25 total pieces after you’ve mixed the two together, you’ll have approximately 8 mg/candy. If one piece isn’t strong enough, you can always take 2 or 3, which should definitely do the trick! Please let us know if you have any other questions.
My husband takes a 240mg gummy for medical reasons and I’d like to try them at home. Can I use THC oil. If I can, how much do I use in a dose and how many would he have to eat to equal the gummies he is eating now? Thanks.
Hi Vicki: Thanks for writing us. Your husband must have a vey high tolerance! Most normal people require 10-25 mg THC in a properly produced edible to get the desired effect without going overboard and wanting to spend the whole afternoon on the couch! So- rule of thumb is this: 10 mg oral THC is what the State of Colorado considers a recreational dose of cannabis. I would start there and work your way up. You can always take more, but can’t take less THC! Also, be sure to give yourself 90-120 minutes to fully evaluate an oral dose of cannabis before consuming more! Good luck and let us know what happens :) Also, the human body builds a tolerance to THC edibles fairly quickly, so keep that in mind as well!
Ok so I need help with a couple of things. I’ve never been high off an edible before. I tried 2 different times and neither worked. So I’ve been looking to make my own brownies and I’ve read about decarbing the bud on a baking sheet in the oven and I was curious if that was the best way to do it because if you do that and then cook it in butter or oil or whatever and then bake the brownies wouldn’t you be cooking the thc and losing it? I may have thought too much into it idk but I’d like some help with the best way to make them the first time. And I was wondering if anyone can give their opinions on making them with butter vs coconut oil? I’d like to try coconut oil because I hear it extracts the thc better. The second thing is, probably after I successfully make brownies, I want to make some sour gummies. Now I was wondering what to use to make these? I don’t think

Hey There: We’ve all been there and I can tell you how frustrating it is to make what you think is the greatest edible in the world and it doesn’t work! Decarboxylate your weed first and foremost! Spread your ground up weed on a cookie sheet and place in preheated oven 240ºF for 30 minutes. THC does not evaporate or boil off at this temperature, so there is no need to cover your weed (though your house will definitely smell like weed). This is a misconception!!! After decarb, you can infuse the plant matter into butter or coconut oil (coco oil being higher in saturated fat, so technically holds more THC than butter). You will want to use wax/shatter for gummies, as you’ll need far less oil per candy, plus if you put too much oil in the gummy mix, the candy may not set up properly and be too sticky to deal with. Not fun.
Good rule of thumb: 1 oz flower per 1 pound of butter or 14 oz coconut oil. Given a modest 15% THC in 1 oz weed, that yields approx. 420 total MG of THC for the butter or oil. There are 32 Tablespoons in a pound of butter, so 420 mg THC / 32 Tablespoons = 13.125 mg THC per Tablespoon of butter. Given the state of Colorado considers 10 mg THC to be a recreational dose, this should be a great place to start. Of course you can use stronger weed, or more weed, but remember dry herbs soak up a lot of oil/butter, and you rarely get back 1 pound of butter after an infusion. When using distilllate has anyone got an aftertaste that is slightly bitter? In the back of the throat almost a Burny feeling
We have not used any distillate products yet in our edibles… we are looking forward to it though! Who was your oil supplier? Do you have the same burning throat issue when smoking/vaping? How much oil are you putting in each piece of candy? We have the same issue when making our edibles too strong, so we keep the THC on the lower end and just eat more :)
I use RSO to make my gummies. I make that with Everclear in a small distiller. The gummies do have a “burny” feeling in the back of my throat. Small inconvenience :)
First, congrads on this highly active/informative post. I am a FL medical patient & we have very few choices. Oil, spray, vap, capsules & etc with nothing convenient away from home or tasty.
I decided to try the easy way by melting gummy worms/bears of hard candy using Truclear uncut hybrid (hope it is not to much Indica) or pure Indica. I use the cut Sativa oil currently.
What I want to try is to prepare the mold, melt a few candies, put into mold & then stir in the correct dose of uncut oil into each cell. I don;t know if I will have time to stir before it sets or if I can stir after put in cell.
I want some carry-able meds & some tasteful meds.
PLEASE let me know if this is possible, hints & etc.
Hey Gator Dennis: Thanks for the compliments- we try to just cut through all the bull and fluff and get to the important stuff. Your method sounds good and the one good thing about gummies is if you mixed and poured in a warm environment, they’ll set up slower and you’ll have more tome to try and mix in the oil/tincture for each piece of candy. I can’t guarantee good results, but your mind is on the right track thinking wise. I’ve honestly tried this before and you always have superior results mixing the whole batch of oil with the whole batch of gummies- that way you’re consistent in every dose/piece. They turned out well using legal concentrate & bought gummies. Mixing the medical concentrate after I poured melted gummies into to the mold allowed me to determine the dose in each gummy. It also stopped any oil from settling in the bottom of the mold outside of the gummy. I rolled them in a little powered sugar after they were completely dry. It did take longer in the Florida heat to dry. I stored them in an Altoids tin I carry everywhere. No mold or decline in quality for months. My story may not be the same for other people.
I have since given up my medical card (July 2018) since the local dispensary was constantly out of meds, had worthless meds for pain relief & tired of paying high prices for junk that no longer helped. Especially after I went off (on my own) from high doses of oxycodone after 12 years that has destroyed my body parts. Now I am w/o any pain meds & still have the pain trying to repair the oxy damage.
Hi I’ve tried about 6 batches of these and the gummies keep getting the wet look after the citric/ sugar mix. I’ve tried drying them for 8 hours then coating, coating them right away, and mixing the cornstarch with the citric acid mixture but nothing seems to work.
Hi Barry: I am so sorry you’re having trouble with this recipe. I was going to give you a cheat if you don’t mind. Near impossible to determine what’s the actual issue without knowing a lot more, but have you considered purchasing a few bags of store bought gummies, separating out the different flavors, melting those down on low heat, add your decarbed oil, and re-pour into molds? Maybe you could give that a try and let us know how it works. Good luck!
Is vape weed remains considered already decarboxylated bc it’s been heated? Can I just add those remains to gummies without straining, or do I need to cook it in coconut oil and then use it in gummies. I’m a little confused. Thank you.
Hi Irene: yes, that is considered decarboxylated already, but I caution you to use that as starting material. I know everyone’s situation is different, but just remember- I’d rather run 1/2 oz flower than 2 oz trim any day of the week. Your final product is only as good as your starting material (barring any fancy refining like fractional distillation, winterization, etc. Good luck!

Sorry to hear you’re having troubles with the recipe. Quantity depends on size of molds. Have you made a dummy batch yet? That’s what I would suggest- make a dummy batch of candy without the hash oil, see how many pieces you get and you should have a pretty good idea after that. Then make the ‘real’ batch. Don’t let them sit around for too long either… these can get moldy quick unless refrigerated. Good luck!

There are some good comments on this thread that are worth a look. If you’re not sure if the glycerin will work, make a dummy batch of candy (with glycerin, but not the medicated/infused glycerin yet) to see how everything sets up.
